Born Oct 5, 1939 in Hanford, California, the oldest son of Howard Hennings and Eleanore Norby Hennings, the early Hennings family moved throughout California, working in the oil industry. The family settled in Modesto in 1947 where Howard and brother Bill started Hennings Brothers Inc water well drilling. Chuck graduated from Modesto High School in 1957. He graduated from CSU, Fresno with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. Chuck immediately was hired by the US Navy as an engineer which took him to all corners of the world repairing Navy vessels. He married Mary Margret Brechwald in 1962. In 1964, Chuck and Mary settled in San Diego, CA but separated in 1980. Chuck retired from US Navy employment in 1995 and moved back to Modesto.
Always active in the Modesto Ski Club, Chuck became more active and involved in the Club during his retirement. He met Linda Barbara Flint through the ski club in the late 1990s and they married in 2005. Chuck and Linda had a great love of fishing, snow skiing, and travel. They were able to visit China, Greece, and several European destinations, in addition to making annual ski trips to many major resorts in the Western US. Chuck and Linda enjoyed deep-sea fishing in their boat off San Francisco Bay and made annual salmon fishing trips to Neah Bay, WA for over 20 years. Chuck was a past president of the Modesto Ski Club, donating many hours to maintenance of the ski club lodge in Truckee and club management. He was a proud member of the Old Fisherman’s Club, Coastside Fishing Club and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Chuck was a devoted husband, proud father, caring uncle and grandfather, and was a good friend. He always had a smile on his face, could and would willingly fix anything for you, and was a friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at Del Rio Country Club (801 Stewart Rd, Modesto, CA) on Tuesday Feb 21, 2023 at 12 Noon. A private interment at Lakewood Memorial Park will follow.
