
Donald was born on September 21, 1941, in Modesto, California. He attended grade school in Empire, California, then graduated from Thomas Downey High School and continued his education at Modesto Junior College. In his twenties, Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea.
Upon returning home, Donald married the love of his life, Judy, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted 59 years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising their daughter, Deborah.
Donald dedicated 35 years of his professional life to working in supervisory roles with General Foods and Post Cereal. Much of his career was spent as a warehouse supervisor at the Post Cereal plant, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and leadership.
A loving and devoted family man, Donald found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife and daughter, as well as the many dogs that were part of their family over the years. He enjoyed fixing things around the house, visiting neighbors and friends, and treasured his weekly phone conversations with his twin sister.
Donald’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He rose early each morning to spend time in prayer and in the Word. He was a faithful member of Crosspoint Community Church for over 50 years.
Donald will be remembered for his easygoing nature, warm sense of humor, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Cogzill; his daughter, Deborah Cogzill; his brother, Gene Atkerson; and his twin sister, Wanda West.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Cogzill; and his siblings, Joan Sangster, Richard Cogzill, Gerald Atkerson, Rayma Duren, James Cogzill Jr.
Donald’s life was a testament to faith, integrity, and enduring love. His legacy will live in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326, US, on April 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
