Dorla Eve Grotemeyer Fike was born in Salinas, California on December 30, 1939 to Gladys and William "Bill" Grotemeyer. Dorla departed this world on November 16, 2022.
Dorla was a loving wife, mother of two, and sister of nine siblings. She lived a full life and was an adventurer at heart. Often she would just hop in her car and go, with her trusty atlas to help her find the next destination. She had many adventures and travelled from one end of this country to the other, and back again.
She loved seeing beautiful places and spending time in nature. Her love of nature began in childhood, in the stands of eucalyptus and oak trees behind her family's home in Prunedale California. She loved climbing the trees with her brothers and sisters, spending long, wonderful days in the woods. Her children were lucky to see her climb one of these trees when she was in her 30s.
Dorla also loved music. She had a beautiful singing voice and she and her sisters, Dottie and Joyce, would harmonize and sing the songs of the McGuire Sisters and the Andrews Sisters. In the last few years, she loved listening to the musicians who would come to play at her assisted living home.
Family, nature and music were the most cherished things in her life and she enjoyed all three in her last month. She spent her last day with her son and daughter-in-law. That evening, she had a loving conversation on the phone with her daughter. Later, Dorla went to bed and, while sleeping, she went on to her next adventure.
Dorla is survived by her children Randy Fike (Michelle) and Lori Abbatepaolo (Paul); grandchildren Seth (Ashley), Jake and Kyle Fike and Brian Abbatepaolo; brother, Garth (Diane) and sister, Linda Lindahl (Tim); and many much loved nieces and nephews.
Dorla is reunited with her cherished husband of 31 years, Willard (Will) H. Fike; parents, William (Bill) and Gladys Grotemeyer; siblings, Judy (Dottie), Tommy, Joyce, Billy, Carol, Karen and Gordie; and her first child, Rhonda Lynn.
