On January 15, 2014 Our LORD and Savior called to home a very kind and gentle soul. Doyle D. Snow Sr. a loving husband and caring father, a beloved grandfather, a brother, uncle and a friend to many will be missed. His contagious laughter would infect us all. Before he could finish a joke he would start laughing uncontrollably causing all, who listened, to join in with a chorus of laughter long before he told the punch line. His kindness was legendary as that is what people comment on the most. He was a story teller extraordinaire and entertained us all around many a campfire not only with stories but with silly songs as well. Born at home and raised in Texas during the depression era the family learned to get along with share cropping, subsistence farming and whatever they could harvest from Mother Nature. He attributed his long health of 86 years to never going to a real doctor and working hard. The only doctor they knew of was his mother who had a remedy for everything and that medicine was harvested from the land. Doyle always worked at outdoor jobs and with his hands. He was a cowboy, a farmer, worked on the pipeline, he was a hired hand and retired from a long held position of thirty years at Foster Farms raising poultry and managing a ranch. He loved family, food, gardening, food, fishing, food and teaching everyone around how to fish and in case I didn’t already mention it he loved food. He was a deacon of the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Waterford before his hearing loss forced him to step aside. Even though deaf in his later years he would still light up a room with his presence. In his declining health every nurse who treated him fell in love with his sense of humor and his smile. His sweetness always got him special attention from the medical staff and nurses until he decided that since they weren’t as good as his momma he would simply put on his clothes and shuffle out the ER door.
He is preceded in death by his dad William Snow, his mother Lizzie Snow, his daughter Becky Snow, his brothers Delbert Snow, William Snow, Virgil Snow, and Leon Snow, Dillard Snow and Donald Snow (died at birth), his sisters Laura Oliver, Wilma Roberts and Bernice Ellison.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Della Jewel Snow, his daughter Rayleen Fernandes, his sons Doyle Snow Jr., Scott Snow, and John Snow, his loving sisters Flossie Saarloos, and Margaret Jackson, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home (Heritage Chapel) on Tuesday, January 21st at 1PM with a viewing at Lakewood Funeral Home, Monday night from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Community Hospice, 2201 Euclid, Hughson, Ca 95326.
