DECEMBER 10, 1922 - JANUARY 6, 2014
On Monday, January 6, 2014, Dick, as he was fondly known to all, passed away at home surrounded by his family. Eldon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and friend. He was loving and generous with his time, talents, and life. He loved his family and friends and many "adopted" children including nieces, nephews and neighbors. He loved to help family and friends with construction projects. Eldon was born in Empire, California on Dec. 10, 1922 to Pearl (Cupp) and Jesse Rash and he lived in Empire most of his life. Dick was a WWII veteran, serving as a seaman in the Merchant Marines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elnora, brother, Ralph, and two infant children. He was a member of the Empire Church of the Brethren. He worked in the construction trade all of his life beginning at the age of 10 in his father's shop. He was an avid surf fisherman, boater and motorcyclist. He got his pilot's license at age 40 and loved flying with friends and family. After retirement, he and his wife, his brother, his two sisters and their spouses and sometimes friends traveled in their trailers and motor homes for much of the next fifteen years.
Eldon is survived by his son, Charles and wife Mary Kay, of Aurora, Colorado, daughter Linda Ward and husband Larry, of Dallesport, Washington, daughter Lois Frantz and husband Lyndall, of Empire, seven grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, two sisters and one sister-in-law.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Empire Church of the Brethren on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
Remembrances can be made to Empire Church of the Brethren or Community Hospice.
