

Ella Maxine Cain passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011. It was her 80th birthday. Ella was born in Modesto to Henry & Edna Johnson on October 16, 1931. She was raised in the Gustine and Stevinson area and graduated from Hilmar High School in 1949. She has resided in Modesto for over 50 years. Ella was married to Lee Cain and was a bookkeeper for their cement contracting business. She was happiest around her family and loved having family at her home for holiday gatherings. She enjoyed annual trips with her family to Lake Tahoe and also her travels to Hawaii, Mexico, Arizona, Reno, Santa Cruz, and summer camping and boating trips. Her hobbies included bowling in a league at McHenry Bowl, playing tennis and golf, and listening to country music. She was a member of Geneva Presbyterian Church in Modesto. Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Cain. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Dale) Lafaille of Modesto, son, Bruce (Debbie) Cole of Waterford, step-daughter, Lynda (Max) Olvera of Turlock, brother, Dick Johnson of Ceres, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 3 great-nieces. Ella’s family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers at Bethel Assisted Living and Modesto Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Community Hospice Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
