George one of the funniest men could keep you laughing for hours . Went on a hunting trip with George, my brother in law skip and another guy to Colorado to hunt Antelope. All the way back George was tell me about how good it was to eat the heart and liver from the animal you had got that day. I kept telling him no way was I going to eat any of it. I brought a lb of hamburger to eat, no way no heart no liver. The first antelope was dressed out and Skip cooked up the heart and liver for the three of them to eat. I cooked my lb of hamburger and sat down to eat. That's when the fun really started. The heart and liver were so bad that none of the three could eat it. It had a very bad smell.  Also told George after all the stuff he told me about how good it was he should dig in and clean his plate, but no way. Years after, every time I would see him we had a good laugh over wild heart and liver. Will miss his stores and his laughter .

Shoulder to shoulder
Shoulder to shoulder we lived our lives and shoulder to shoulder we depart it.  George and I first met as kids, nearly 90 years ago.  In our youth, we did almost everything together.  We worked at the gas station in Groveland together, we backpacked into the mountains, hiked, and fished together. We rode the school bus together from Groveland down Old Priest Grade to Sonora, sharing the driving with other students.  We graduated from Sonora High School and, at George’s suggestion, enrolled at Cal Poly to learn welding.   We got our social security cards at the same time – with only a one number difference between them.  It was early in WWII and we decided to enlist.  I served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and George in the U.S. Army, both of us in the South Pacific.
After the war, we married and lived in the same town, only a few miles apart, for the rest of our lives. Our families were close and had many wonderful times together.  It’s November, 2020 and we’ve been called from this world just days apart from each other.  Knowing that we’ll be together soon, I look forward to being shoulder to shoulder with you again.  George, it’s been everything in the world having you as a friend for these 90 years.

Before watching the video I was talking to Denny and telling him how fun it was going camping with the pop up trailer.  I can remember it like it was yesterday.  I had so much fun visiting every summer at Uncle George's & Aunt Della's.  So thankful for the memories.  Love you all.

Thank you Jim.  We will look forward to the celebration of life next year to honor a man from the greatest generation. He and my dad, along with all the other Sonora good old boys and girls,  are having a great time talking about their fun days and laughing at the way the USA is today. Take care Jim and know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Lots of wonderful memories for you all to carry you through this passage of life.

Terri just told me about Uncle George's passing.  I'm sorry to hear, but I think George would want us to celebrate his new adventure, He always seemed a very upbeat and a positive person probably the Irish in him. I'm honored to say I knew him, I just wished I could have known him better like alot of people I know. Life goes on and this makes us realize how important every day is to us. I know I forget this a lot of times. The older the fiddle the lovelier the tune, God bless you Uncle George.

Sorry to hear about George. Of all the cousins, George and Betty tolerated me the best. I remember George teaching me to drive in Joe’s ‘32 Model A Ford and going skinny dipping in Big Creek. After the war George and Pete came by in a Jeep! I had never seen a Jeep. We will miss him a lot. Muriel and I offer our condolences and hope you will call when you get a chance.

I have so many memories of my dad. Teaching me to fish at 5, how to handle a gun properly, how to spot wildlife, how to drive in the mountains, how to change the oil on my car, too many to list. He will always be on my mind when I do things like this. Tip a drink to my dad, he was a special kind of dad who would always be there for me and always had a funny story to tell. He is up there in the clouds with my daughter Chrissy now, she has waited ten years for her grandpa to join her, God only knows what kind of trouble they will be up to now.
