Our Mother passed peacefully into the hands of God on July 1, 2022, just shy of her 94th. She is survived by her six children, who loved her, Armando (Rosemarie), Raul, Maria (Dennis), Fred (Janie, deceased) Elvia (Bob) and Irma (Jim), as well as 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Hilda was born to Faustino and Rosa Alcala in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Pierdas Negras, Coahuilla, Mexico with her seven brothers; Guadalupe, Alfredo, Salvador, Ricardo, and Fernando, who proceeded her in death; as well as her surviving brothers, Ramiro and Alberto. Having seven brothers made for a feisty, independent, strong woman. Her heart always remained with her brothers and their families with many nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss their Tia Hilda.
She had a great love for both of her countries and was proud of her Mexican heritage. Her love of politics in the United States and Mexico never ceased and she voted in every election as well as volunteering for campaigns and issues. She was involved with the Civil Rights Movements as well as Farmworker Rights, teaching her children the importance of civic and community engagement. Through these engagements she volunteered for the school PTA’s and was known to make pinatas for every one of her children’s classroom.
Hilda loved to garden and was known to make beautiful works of art from her hands through sewing and knitting which she graced upon family and friends. She made wonderful meals for her family and often commented how through the grace of God there was always enough for anyone who sat at our table. She loved teaching the little ones to make their first tamale which was a family tradition during the Christmas holidays. Her devotion to her Catholic faith was with her throughout her life until her final breath.
She was loved, and will be loved, by her children whom she had a unique relationship with each. Hilda was called Grandma by her grandchildren and it filled her heart with joy. Her later years were happiest when she was with them, hugging and making them smile. She will hold a special place in their hearts for her and for many of their significant others.
Our Mother spent her final years at Acacia Park Nursing and Rehab Center, the care she was given was wonderful, and we are forever grateful for the kindness shown by all the staff and personnel.
We bid goodbye to our Mother with broken hearts and love that will endure through time.
She is in the hands of God where she will rest in Peace. Ve con Dios Mami.
A graveside service for Hilda will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326.
