Loren was born in Modesto to Frank and Roselind (Rocha) Mendes. He attended Modesto schools and joined the army in 1971, where he became a para-jumper in the 82nd Airborne. He attended Modesto Junior College and met his wife Sharon (Costa). They married in November 1974.
Loren was a dairyman in his younger years. Loren was a pigeon grower since his late teens and a member of the California Squab Producers for the last 45 years. Loren enjoyed going to livestock auctions, a joy he inherited from his father and grandfather. Loren was also a fan of WWF wrestling. Loren’s biggest joy of all was being a Papa to his grandchildren.
Loren is survived by his wife Sharon Mendes, their three children Lisa Mendes of Turlock, Anthony (Karen) Mendes of Turlock, and Matthew Mendes of Salida; two grandchildren Saige and Kase Mendes. Loren will be greatly missed.
The family will be holding a remembrance of life on February 3, 2024 from 1pm to 5pm at Hilmar Grange Hall, 8188 Lander Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
