Lowell lived a long and fulfilling life serving others in his community, church and neighborhood. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Signalman, 2nd Class, in the South Pacific conflict. He enjoyed many interests, activities, a hard day’s work, along with fun with friends and family.
Lowell moved from San Diego and settled with his family in Modesto, CA, in 1957. He was a true craftsman in his trade of laying miles of carpet, deftly sewing each seam by hand. He served as a Boy Scout leader, a Little League Baseball coach, and faithfully wore the uniform and badge as one of Modesto City’s Police Reserve Officers (1958-1970). He was an outdoorsman at heart who loved to hunt, fish, camp, pan for gold and collect rocks. He enjoyed archery, raising homing pigeons, collecting coins and stamps, photography, candy making, reading, and he could craft and fix anything! He always had just the right tool!
He loved traveling with his wife, Phyllis, and they enjoyed staying in their RV at Avila Beach many times. Together they would often host friends in their home to play card games or hold Bible study! One of his favorite daily treats, all his life, was an evening bowl of ice cream!
Lowell loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart and served Him working as a volunteer for Medical Ambassadors International for many years. He was an usher at his church on Sunday mornings and warmly welcomed all to come in. He was always willing and ready to help others in any way he could. He was noted for being a gentle, kind and loving man by all who knew him.
He lived by his often quoted Scripture verse, Proverbs 3:5&6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
Lowell is survived by his wife of 39 years, Phyllis Andrews, his sons Dana Andrews (Joanne) and Mark Andrews (Pat), his daughters Gail Parker (Mike), and Julie O’Mea (Doug), nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, stepsons Clay Thomas (Patti), and Neil Thomas, three step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Lowell will be buried at San Joaquin National Cemetery at Santa Nella in a private service with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to U.S Department of Veteran Affairs www.volunteer.va.gov.
