San Francisco, California - Marshall Dale Morgan, MD, age 81, of San Francisco, CA, passed away on November 27, 2023. He was born on November 21, 1942. Marshall passed away as a result of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and bladder cancer.
He is the son of Lucille and DL Morgan of Modesto. He grew up on a farm in Ceres and stayed with his grandparents in Hughson while his father was in the US Navy. He moved to Modesto for high school and was awarded scholarships from Modesto Bee for medical school.
In the late 1970's Dr. Morgan pioneered ultrasound scanning of patients at Highland General Hospital and trained technicians in this. This endeavor launched ultrasonography to the highest-level at Highland Hospital for OB/GYN, musculoskeletal, general and needle localizations. He also performed the majority of the angiograms over 34 years.
There he also did interventional radiology procedures, CAT scans, and MRIs, and was chief of mammography. He was consistently a patient mentor and teacher to all his staff and trainees.
Dr. Morgan was especially conscientious, gentle, and extremely thorough with all of his patient studies, interactions, and procedures.
His greatest satisfaction was providing a positive interaction with staff and patients. He was a dedicated teacher!
In his spare time Dr. Morgan became a certified welder and autobody specialist. In addition to earning certifications in auto mechanics and carpentry.
An avid Steam engine enthusiast and expert, Dr. Morgan was also a chess champion at Modesto High School and Junior College. A learned Judo expert, He practiced at Duke's Dojo in Stockton and was a third degree brown belt in his younger years.
Dr. Morgan attended the University of Pacific school of pharmacy where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was recommended for the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine from which he graduated in 1970. He then went on to Orange County Hospital at UC Irvine for his medical internship in 1971. And then on to the Medical College of Wisconsin (Marquette), Milwaukee General Radiology Program which he completed in 1974.
After retiring from Highland Hospital in 2008 Dr. Morgan joined the Veterans Administration in Oakland and Martinez from 2009 to 2023 where he was consistently a patient teacher mentor for all staff trainees and colleagues.
He always did his best and everyone who crossed paths with Dr. Morgan came away with having learned something from his guidance and his keen ability to solve problems.
He is survived by his loving friend and wife, Eliana Delgado MD '82, son Fred, and surviving brothers, Kenneth, Roberto, and Richard.
A private memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate Marshall's life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. He is buried in Lakewood Memorial with his grandparents Fred and Lulu Park of Hughson.
Marshall's memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him. He will be missed by all!
A graveside service for Marshall will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326.
