My mom was one of the sweetest and kindest people you would ever meet. I remember when my parents moved to Galt they became patients at the clinic I was working at.  Everyone that worked there would always comment about how sweet my mom was.  It always made me so proud to be her daughter.  She never wanted anyone to be upset with her.  If she thought she hurt your feelings I can guarantee you would have gotten a phone call before the end of the day with her wanting to apologize.
Her greatest desire on this earth was to feel the love of her husband, children and grandchildren.   I hope that she always felt my love for her.
She was blessed with a love from my father that many will never experience.  She truly could not live without him.  Her life changed dramatically when he passed away on 5/10/23.  I will always feel such sadness that in her last years she was so lonely and sad without her husband of 65 years. I would say after 5/10/23 my mom wasn’t living…she was existing.  Her life became one where she was dependent on others for almost everything.  If I could have taken the pain and sadness from her I would have.  
I will choose to remember my mom as the sweet, kind and caring person she was. I will remember her as the mother that loved and cared for her children even in the hardest times when my father was overseas. I will remember her as the mother who took so much pride in her home.  I will remember her as the mother who never let me leave or hang up the phone without saying I love you. I will remember her as the mother who loved a good hug. I will remember her as the mother who loved her husband and family with such a deep love that was unconditional. I will remember her as the mother who loved God and taught me to do the same.  I hope that I can make her proud by passing on the sweetness and kindness she showed to others while I am still on this earth. 
We will miss your every day and love you forever.

There are so many words I could use to describe my mom. She was kind, loving considerate,sensitive,not to mention an impeccable organizer and stubborn to a fault. All the things I loved and admired about her. 

My mom(and dad) shaped me into the person I am today. THANK YOU for teaching us the values of God, love and family. Because of these things I am the wife, mother and grandmother I am proud to be. 

These past 2 1/2 + years since my dad left us have been extremely difficult. Losing the love of her life left a void nothing could fill. She tried hard for a few months but eventually gave into the despair. I never thought of my mom as weak because of that , she was a strong woman whose strength came from the support of a loving husband. After 65 years she knew nothing else. He was her other half. 

The brief moments of joy came from time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. Her family was everything to her and loved everyone unconditionally. Never judging and always welcoming with open arms. 

After my dad passed away our lives changed forever. My mom became part of my sister Laurie and I everyday life. No matter where I was or what I was doing she was always in my mind. We took the responsibility my dad left behind. But unfortunately nothing we could do or say made life better. The day my dad left us we lost a huge part of our mom and a little more everyday. She endured 943 days of heartache until she was finally reunited with her love. Her death certificate might say she succumbed from complications of dementia but I know my mom died of a broken heart. 

Mom, I miss you so much and there will never be a day as long as I live that you won’t be in my thoughts. I have real peace knowing God above welcomed you with open arms and you are happy ,pain free and back with Dad where you longed to be.

As I sit here typing this I have so many memories flooding my mind of my sweet grandma. I love her so much it hurts, and I wish I could sit here and tell you everything I love about her and every memory I have with her, but I can't because there are simply too many to list. 
The one thing that comes to mind though is how much she truly loved her family. She loved her family so deeply and it was extremely evident. She would always call to check in on us and when she asked how we were doing or what we had been up to that week, you knew she genuinely cared and wanted to know. She wasn't just making small talk. She was always so worried about us and wanted to make sure we were doing ok and always wanted to know what we were up to in our lives. 
I thoroughly enjoyed being at the house with her and grandpa watching them play and interact with my kids and just sitting there chatting it up with them filling them in on things. I looked forward to her calls and those visits more than I think she ever realized. When I saw their number pop up on my phone it was always an instant feeling of comfort and joy, a feeling I have missed over the last few years.
 I went to visit her often over the last few years and it pained me to see her struggling and hurting. I wish I could have taken that pain from her. 
One memory I will hold onto is a few weeks before she passed I was sitting holding her hand, singing worship songs to her and telling her how much we all loved her and she started singing "I love you" over and over. I knew how much that took to be able to sing for me and I will cherish that forever. It meant the world to me. 
I miss her so much already but I know she has left a legacy down here. We all are hurting knowing she is no longer with us, but we are happy knowing she is finally reunited with grandpa in their forever home worshipping with Jesus.  I can only hope to be the woman of God she was and I will forever hold her memory in my heart ❤️

Melba Jean Morrison moved from her parent's house to her husband's house - a common trajectory for women of her generation. She and Grandpa held traditional values, but found that as their family grew and generations were born, the world was changing. Their children and grandchildren were foraging different paths for their lives, and making decisions that she may not have agreed with. However, her love and devotion never faltered. As I started my doctorate, she expressed concern about how it may impact my growing family. After she had said her piece, she never brought it up again - instead making it a point to ask me how school was going whenever we connected and understanding when I was too busy with coursework to visit. I earned my Doctorate a year ago now and she wasn't in a place to celebrate with us - I wish I could have duplicated this high school graduation picture with both my grandparents. I know they are proud of me.

My grandmother was a women of her time - a quiet, helpmate to her husband and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I always thought of her in the context of my grandfather and our family. However, after she became a widow a few years ago, I got to see a fierce, stubborn side of her. For the first time in her life, she did things how she wanted them done. While I know she would have rather had grandpa by her side, I think she enjoyed a sense of freedom she had never had before. Though it was hard, I cherish the special time we had together the last few years.

I have been putting off writing this because it’s so
hard. I miss my Grandma so much and it hurts heart to think about her being gone. Although i am so happy for her to be free from pain and to be with Jesus and Grandpa,I just wasn’t ready to lose her. 
My Grandma was such a good grandma. She loved us all unconditionally, and always showed up for us. Even if she couldn’t be there in person, she always wanted to hear about every single detail. I never doubted Grandmas love for her family. I had such a beautiful relationship with her. No other connections I have can compare. 
As a child, i have so many great memories of her. I have zero bad memories of my sweet Grandma. I’ll never forget her brown tupperware container of cheerios. That is what we always had for breakfast when we visited, and while she poured the milk into our bowls she would say “say when!”.  
Another phrase she said ALL the time was “monkey see, monkey do”.  I don’t remember her ever being mad (except when she and Grandpa were bickering). 
As an adult, I had a wonderful relationship with Grandma and Grandpa. When i moved back from Maryland, i spent 1-2 days a week visiting them. It was so special being able to form an adult relationship with my grandparents. I was blessed to live right around the corner from their home in Galt. It made it easy for visits. They absolutely LOVED visits from the great-grandkids. It brought joy to Grandmas life to be able to watch them grow. I was blessed to be able to take Amelia and Luke over to visit often. They love and miss her dearly.
In Grandma’s later years, me living close was even more of a blessing. Both grandparents needed more help. Chris and i were able to get over there fast. After Grandpa passed, I spent much time helping her physically and mentally. I have to say that it was an honor and a blessing to be able to do that. It was an intimate and tender time.
