

Noble Howard Young peacefully passed away on March 20, 2016 at the age of 96 in Modesto, CA. He was born on November 22, 1919 in Checotah, OK to parents Thomas and Stella Young. Noble and his five siblings were raised in Webbers Falls, OK. As a child, he was very athletic and would help his parents with their work as sharecroppers picking cotton. In high school, Noble’s basketball team won the Oklahoma State Championship of 1939. After graduating high school in 1941, Noble served in the Army during WWII from March 5, 1942 to November 18, 1945. The American hero was a Sergeant whose specialty was automotive mechanic. Noble had fought in four of the five major battles in Europe including Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Northern France and Central Europe. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon, Four Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and American Theater Ribbon.
Noble married Wanda Leah Askew on June 14, 1947 and they were married 53 years. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, listening to music and fixing things. Noble is reunited with his wife Wanda, son Tommy Noble Young, grandsons Jarred Puryear and Lewis Noble Young, parents Thomas and Stella, brother Douglas Young and sister Krata Lawrence.
He is survived by his son Gerald Young of Tuolumne, CA, daughter Judi (Melvin) Puryear of Modesto, CA, sisters Corine Herron of Astoria, OR, Deloris Deni of Valley Springs, CA, Freda Lawson of Manteca, CA, five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home in the Riverside Chapel on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Chapel service will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, April 1, 2016 with burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
