Peggy Ann Porter was born in Tucson Arizona on July 7, 1936. God called her home the evening of February 25, 2025. She is survived by her son, Cary Porter and his beautiful wife Cheryl, and daughter, Coralaine Porter. She had three grandchildren, Kelly, Shawn and Christopher. She is also survived by her four great grandchildren Rory Porter, born by Shawn and Amy Porter and Jack, Lila and Shepherd Porter, born by Christopher and his wife, Jenny Porter. She is survived also by her sisters,
Nancy Bridgeman and Joan Orme and her baby brother Jan King. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Charlotte Moss.
She has passed peacefully at home, she and her beloved husband built for their last years, in the Lake Don Pedro subdivision. They, together, spent their last working days helping rejuvenate the beautiful subdivision they lived in. They built many custom homes, an office and restored the golf course there, Lake Don Pedro Golf and Country Club. They helped rebuild infrastructure there for the future benefit of their neighbors. They were very much loved and respected in this community for their efforts there!
Peggy, as a small child, came to California from Arizona, as part of the mass migration to the "Promised Land" at the waning of the "Great Depression" in the 1930s. Her family landed in Fresno California, eventually buying a small 20 acre grape orchard they called "the Ranch". It is here that her mother Marie King and her future mother-in-law, Ida Porter orchestrated her first meeting with her "Prince Charming", Tom Porter working in the nearby fields.
This meeting at work forged their future together, building their lived by helping build this state. Her dowry of 5 quarts of self-canned peaches and eleven dollars was built into a real estate empire that only they envisioned in their youth. Their good works enabled them, to over a lifetime, leave the poverty of the Depression to build a great life together, forged in a committed bond of dedicated devotion to each other and their family. Their accomplishments together cemented their contributions to the growth of the great state of California and the welfare of thousands of others by the jobs they provided.
These accomplishments were so grand we can only lightly touch upon them here. Tom and Peggy sold over 15,000 properties in their lifetime that owned and/or developed. They built or helped rejuvenate 72 subdivisions! They built over 800 custom homes! Most properties were tied to their business of selling recreational and or retirement properties near the San Francisco Bay Area. They built the first purpose-built timeshare in California, Mountain Retreat Timeshare Estates. They built The Deerwood Office Park in San Ramon, CA to facilitate locally, their work in the mountains. This was the first office park built in the San Ramon Valley!
They built several restaurants to facilitate their mountain sales. They built numerous offices to facilitate sales. They built the first corporate child care center in San Ramon Valley, Teddy Bears Childcare, at the urging of their then young grandchild Christopher. These are just a few of the many important projects that she and her husband Tom put together in their lifetime. They held counsel together on all things. She was part of every important decision or action taken by their many companies and her husband Tom Porter.
Tom and Peggy together personally built over 65 subdivisions of their own, in California. This included all the infrastructure including roads, water and sewer. They built the highest per capita water system in the state, The Grizzly Park Water Company. They subsequently donated this multi-million dollar enterprise to the community of Grizzly Flats. They rebuilt the sewer system in Lake Don Pedro as one of their important contributions to that community.
We only lightly touch on her many accomplishments in life as she was humble and would not want us to talk about such things. The reality is that none of this would have happened without her commitment to her family and this state and people of California she loved so much. This was in addition to the gifts she gave her children to have a love of the arts, from books to movies to music. She taught a love of gardening and nature and deep love of animals. She taught about nutrition and health. She taught her children to love and respect others. She taught The Golden Rule and to thereby contribute to the good of the common man. She was a staunch arbiter of civic responsibility. The gifts of love and attention she freely gave her husband, children and all her family were from a gentle but strong woman who never gave up. Her gifts to others never ceased!
Even in her leisure pursuits were composed of greatness. She and Tom travelled to over 315 countries in their lifetime! They went to countries no longer in existence! They went to countries most people have never heard of! There are only six other couples, as acknowledged by the Century Club, as having done so, ever!!!
Her last years were of reflection and peace and tranquility in the home she loved, under the care of her beloved daughter, Coralaine. She had a full life but it was time to go home to her dear husband Tom and be at peace forever!
