

Velma Barkhousen was born July 24, 1915 in Walden, Arkansas to William Locke Evans and Annie Evans. She went to be with her sweet Jesus on March 21, 2014 at the age of 98 in Modesto, CA surrounded by her family.
During World War II, Velma worked with her first husband, W.B. Jones, at the Richmond Ship Yard in California. After W.B. passed, Velma remarried in 1959. She owned service stations, a café, and a motel in the Williams area.
Velma was a member of Angels in Modesto. Residents of Ralston Towers made Children's items for mothers at Haven Women's Shelter. Velma also crocheted hats for newborns at Doctors Medical Center. She was a member of the Forever Young Club and the Young at Heart exercise group.
Velma is survived by her sisters; Allie Mae Thompson, Johnnie A. Jones, Mattie Lois Brock, and a brother; William L. Evans; numerous nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, and many more generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; William Locke and Annie Evans, her brothers; Lester L. Evans and Leroy D. Evans and her sister; Charlene Trammel.
Funeral will be at Salvation Army Church, 1649 Las Vegas St Modesto, Ca 95358 at 8am.
Graveside Burial will be Thursday March 27, 2014 at 10AM at Lakewood Memorial Park (Memory Garden) in Hughson, CA.
Potluck will follow at 1130AM at the Salvation Army Church. Flowers and/or donations can be donated to Salvation Army Church.
