Vernon Ray Price

Vernon R. Price, 73, of Modesto, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 after a brief illness.Vern was one of four children born to John V. Price of Texas and Bertha Price of Oklahoma on January 9,1937 in Whittier, CA. He has two brothers, Jerry Price of Fremont and David Price of Oakdale, as well as one sister, Linna Jones (John) of Pittsburg. Vern graduated from Las Vegas H.S. in 1955. Having grown up on a farm, he knew hard work and wasn't afraid of it. He loved and served his Country in the U.S. Army and later in law enforcement in Virginia and California. He lived his life with respect for his fellowman and wore Badge # 81 with pride, retiring after 28 years with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. Vern had a great sense of humor and wit and loved sharing time with family, watching sports and movies, and listening to music.He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Modesto, his daughters, Renee Price of Modesto, Cheryl Crawford (Todd) of Turlock, Marlene Bell (Gregg) of Shafter, his mother, Bertha Price and an extended family including four children, nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, John V. Price, half brother, Sherman Price and previous wife and mother of his children, Mary. Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 8th from 4-8pm, with a Memorial Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 9th at 1:00PM. Both at LAKEWOOD FUNERAL HOME.
