Irma (Saucier) Beauchamp

C’est à la fois de tristesse et de soulagement pour elle que nous disons au revoir à notre mère, Irma Beauchamp (née Saucier). Elle est décédée le 10 mai 2023 à l’hôpital général de Almonte à la suite de nombreux jours de santé appauvrissante. À 92 ans, elle a vécu une magnifique et mémorable vie.

Elle est née le 1er février 1931 à Ottawa, fille de Théophile Saucier et Alma Séguin. Tout en riant, elle aimait tant raconter le fait qu’elle est née la veille du mariage de ses parents. Elle fut tout de même la 10e enfant d’une fratrie de treize. Le 29 mai 1954, elle épousa le grand amour de sa vie, Simon Beauchamp (1930-1999). Elle n’a jamais oublié leur première sortie romantique, à un match de « wrestling » ; ah, qu’elle se réjouissait à le taquiner de son choix si spécial. Ensemble, ils adoraient voyager, mais ils ont surtout joui des moments chaleureux et récréatifs en famille.

Au cours des années, elle a travaillé aux magasins Shaffer’s Ltd où elle rencontra son beau Simon, ainsi que chez Charles Ogilvy. Plus tard dans sa carrière, elle eut l’heureuse opportunité de travailler avec le département de la Défense nationale. Ses passe-temps favoris furent surtout de s’amuser avec ses petits-enfants en les faisant ricaner. Elle fut une artiste de tous les styles ; elle adorait le dessin et la peinture, le petit-point pour créer de magnifiques tableaux, le tricot et le crochet. Avant tout, sa passion était de jouer aux cartes en famille, une occasion de rire ensemble ; oh, qu’elle avait de bonnes stratégies pour gagner ! La musique de son temps l’entourait tout au long de la journée.

Irma demeura à Sutton Place sur Jasmine Crescent, à Gloucester pendant 40 ans. Au cours des dernières années, elle fut choyée par sa fille Paulette et son gendre Grant, qui l’accueillent chez eux.

Irma est prédécédée par son époux, Simon ainsi que ses merveilleux frères et sœurs : Roland, Colombe, Léo, Jean-Marc, Jeanette, Aimé, Rita, Thérèse, Irène, Anna, Thomas and Cécile. Elle est survécue par ses filles, Carole (Mike Kavanagh), Paulette (Grant Marshall) et Diane (Gil Yendall) ; ses petits-enfants : Raymond (Dana Williams), Christopher et George (Gracie Brox) Marshall ainsi que Ryan Kavanagh et sa sœur Micaela (Rocky Galla) ; et, par ses arrière-petits-enfants : Hayden et Noah, fils de Raymond et Dana ; Oliver, Emma, Finn, Avery et June, enfants de George et Gracie. Un nouvel arrière-petit-fils est attendu bientôt. Elle est aussi survécue par son beau-frère, Frank Lanovaz (Irène Saucier) et de nombreux neveux et nièces.

Notre famille remercie énormément Dr Graeme McKillop ainsi que le personnel infirmier et de soutien de l’Hôpital Général de Almonte pour les merveilleux soins qu’ils ont prodigués à notre mère. De plus, nous offrons nos reconnaissances au Père Stéphane Pouliot de l’Église St.Mary’s de Carleton Place, pour les sincères soins spirituels qu’il lui offrit. Il sut si bien l’apaiser.

La famille et les amis sont invités à se joindre à nous pour célébrer Irma le jeudi 18 mai 2023 à compter de 10h30 à la Maison funéraire Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp au 271, boulevard St-Joseph à Hull, QC J8Y 3Y1. Les funérailles auront lieu à 13h en l’Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Eau-Vive, 30, rue St-Onge, Hull, QC J8Y 5T6.

Dear sweet Maman, you took your last breath on Wednesday, just before sunrise. Exactly as you dreamed of, your heart awoke in heaven surrounded by the Lord, Dad and your family.

It is with both sadness and compassionate relief for her that we say goodbye to our mother, Irma Beauchamp (née Saucier), who passed away on May 10, 2023, at Almonte General Hospital following many days of illness. She led a truly wonderful life of 92 years.

She was born on February 1, 1931, in Ottawa, the daughter of Théophile Saucier and Alma Séguin. Laughingly, she liked to tell the story of being born on the eve of her parents’ wedding. She was, after all, the 10th child amongst thirteen siblings. On May 29, 1954, she married Simon Beauchamp (1930–1999), the great love of her life. She never forgot their first romantic outing to a wrestling match; oh, how she delighted in teasing him of his so-special choice. Together, they enjoyed travelling, but above all, they relished the warm and fun moments with their family.

Over the years, she worked at the Shaffer’s Ltd store where she met Simon, then at Charles Ogilvy in Ottawa. Later in her career, she enjoyed the opportunity to work at the Department of National Defence. Her favourite pastime was to have fun making her grandchildren giggle. She was an artist: she loved drawing and painting, needlepoint to create beautiful tableaux, knitting and crocheting. Above all, her passion was playing cards with family, an occasion to laugh together; oh, what good strategies she had to win! The music of her time embraced her throughout each day.

Irma lived at Sutton Place on Jasmine Cres, in Gloucester for 40 years. In her later years, she was affectionately surrounded by her daughter Paulette and son-in-law Grant, who welcomed her into their home.

Irma is predeceased by her husband Simon and her wonderful siblings: Roland, Colombe, Léo, Jean-Marc, Jeanette, Aimé, Rita, Thérèse, Irène, Anna, Thomas, and Cécile. She is survived by her daughters Carole (Mike Kavanagh), Paulette (Grant Marshall) and Diane (Gil Yendall); her grandchildren: Raymond (Dana Williams), Christopher and George (Gracie Brox) Marshall, as well as Ryan Kavanagh and his sister Micaela (Rocky Galla); and, by her great-grandchildren: Hayden and Noah, sons of Raymond and Dana; Oliver, Emma, Finn, Avery and June, children of George and Gracie. A new great-grandson is expected soon. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Frank Lanovaz (Irène Saucier) and many nephews and nieces.

We are very grateful to Dr. Graeme McKillop and the nursing and support staff of the Almonte General Hospital for the wonderful care they provided our mother. We also thank Fr Stéphane Pouliot of St-Mary’s Church in Carleton Place for the heartfelt and uplifting spiritual care he gave her.
