

Gloria was born at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston,Texas on September 24,1941 to Leslie Rector, Sr. originally from Huntsville,Texas (a laborer for Hughes Tool Company) and Elizabeth Randall Rector (a Homemaker) originally from Huntsville,Texas also. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her daughter Alia Moneka Archie.
She is survived by her children, Jerrald Lynn Rector, Sr., Erica Elizabeth Green, Ahmad Kenyetta Lowery, Sinia Lashunda Johnson, and Margary Hassain Lowery, Eighteen Grandchildren, Fifteen Great Grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.
She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1959 and attended both Texas Southern University and Houston Community College earning an Associate Degree from the latter. She spent time working as Teacher's Aid and Custodian, but spent significantly more time being a Housewife and was a CNA by trade working at various locations including Twin Oaks Hospital in Houston and the W.J. Estelle Unit (T.D.C.J. - I.D.) in Huntsville, Texas.
She enjoyed watching sports, especially football and was an avid fan of any Texas-based team, but Houston-based teams in particular. She enjoyed attending large family gatherings, preparing large meals, sewing/knitting, reading and writing poetry. However, her greatest passion was studying her Family History something she did diligently for the better part of four decades until her health declined.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 pm. on Monday , May 8 , 2023 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd. Humble,Texas 77338 with a Memorial Service to follow. Pastor Olus Holder will officiate.
