Mirta lived a life of ambition, dedication, and endurance. She obtained a BA in mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico. She continued her education when she further obtained a Master’s degree in Education and a second Master’s in Administration at the University of Houston. Mirta served as a master educator and principal for 35 years.
Mirta was preceded in death by her mother, Maria J. Portalatin; father, Juan A. Canals; and brother, Raul A. Canals. She is survived by her husband and the love of her life, Angel L. Gonzalez; daughters, Ivonne Ruggles and Suhail J. Gonzalez; sons-in-law, Jon Ruggles and Christopher Gregory; grandsons, Ripley Ruggles, Alexander Vargas, Nicolas Vargas, Dominic Gregory; sisters, Aida L. Canals , Gloria E. Canals, Gladys M. Canals, Maritza Del C. Canals; brothers, Luis A. and Jose A. Canals; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Your legacy will live on through your children, grandchildren and generations to come and you will forever be remembered in our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24th, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine Westfield Road, Humble, Texas 77338. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home with a committal service to follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery.
