Rachel Pacheco Zulaica age 66 went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2014. She was born in San Antonio, TX to Luciano and Antonia Pacheco, on January 10, 1948. Rachel was a devoted wife and mother. On May 30, 1964, Rachel married the man of her dreams, Ray Zulaica who preceded her in death. In 1966, Ray was drafted by the US Army and stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington; she faithfully followed him to basic training and tearfully said goodbye as he headed to war. During his absence she worked in her in-law’s café in Charlotte, TX. Upon his return they moved back to San Antonio to start their family. God blessed them with two daughters, Roxanne Zulaica McFarland and Rayanne Zulaica Johnson.
Rachel was a hands-on mom to her children. She participated in school PTO’s, served as homeroom mother, and was a leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was the director of the Mother’s Day Out Program and High School Sunday School teacher. She was also the leader of the Ladies Auxiliary.
People were drawn to Rachel because of her loving spirit, listening ear, and compassionate soul. She had a true love for mankind and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She didn’t know a stranger and was quick to brag about her family to anyone that would listen. She took pride in being a stay-at-home mom. She worked hard at running a household that was filled with love, laughter, and happiness.
Rachel is survived by her two daughters, Roxanne and Rayanne, son in-law Galen, and her granddaughter Kylee McFarland (Jason). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be begin at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral home. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 29, 2014 also at Calvary Hill.
