Robert “Bob” James Landry, 72, of Spring, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Houston Methodist Hospital of The Woodlands. Bob was born in Port Arthur, TX on Monday, March 24, 1947 to Ulysse and Birdie (Duhon) Landry. His siblings are Eugene, Rene, and Raymond. Married to Antonieta M. Landry for 30 loving years.
In his teens, he was a star athlete on the Bishop Byrne HS, in Port Arthur, football and basketball teams. He graduated in 1965, and then briefly attended Lamar University in Beaumont for Biology and Mathematics. While at Lamar, he was part of the Newman Club, an organization that fostered the religious, intellectual, and social life of Catholic Students. A short time after starting college, he enlisted into the Marines in September 1966, as a Rifleman and was Honorably Discharged.
For several years, he held various jobs, including working as a Private Investigator, and was the Admissions Director at ITT Institute. While at ITT he received multiple awards for performance and was recognized for setting the standard for policy and admissions.
Bob found his calling as a Hearing Instrument Specialist, an industry with which he would spend the next 30+ years. He very much enjoyed helping people, and worked under several companies including Miracle Ear, Astrum, and Connect Care. After about 25 years in the business, he became an entrepreneur and decided to open his own company, “Bob’s Hearing Center,” with his wife’s assistance. His business was very successful for several years until he had to close their doors due to a heart attack. Following the heart attack, his recovery was a long and strenuous process which compelled Bob to retire. He began making significant strides during his recovery regarding heath and quality of life. His wife completed closing the doors on their business and helped Bob on the road to recovery.
Bob’s religious convictions started early in life, growing up in a devout Catholic home, and attended many Catholic schools including Bishop Byrne HS and Lamar University. In the early 80s, he found the Bahá'í faith, a religion that he would follow for the rest of his life. He unfortunately, was never able to make a pilgrimage to Haifa, but was able to visit the House of Worship in Chicago. His convictions went beyond his life, as instructions were left to ensure following his passing, his remains would follow the rituals for believers, despite not being required for “western” Bahá'ís.
Bob was a wonderful husband and father, Bob enjoyed playing computer games with the children throughout the years beginning with a Nintendo and most recently on a PC. He also spent much time researching holistic health options. Bob enjoyed making people smile and laugh, though the term “dad jokes” applies. He was often referred to as being one of the kindest most caring persons and very intelligent. He regularly would go on bike rides and enjoyed road trips.
He was preceded in rest by his parents and brothers, Rene and Raymond Landry. Survived by his wife Antonieta Landry of Spring, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Ashley Landry of North Stonington, CT; step-son Gabriel Aguilar of Spring, TX; step-daughter Sonia Reece of Houston, TX; step-son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Greta Reece of Katy, TX; grandchildren Braiden and Mason Landry; Taylor and Teagan Reece; and brother Eugene Landry of Round Rock TX.
He was a great husband and father. The void created by his passing cannot ever be filled. We will always remember and never forget. The world is a better place because he was part of it.
