Russ was born to Edwin and Margaret “Peggy” Hubbard on 17 June 1956 in Carrizozo, NM. He graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1974 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps the same year. He was honorably discharged in 1976, and continued to serve his country in the Army Reserve.
Russ met his wife, Martha, in 1979 and married the following year on 06 June 1980. They welcomed their first child, Scott, in 1983 and their second, Kyle, in 1984.
Through the years, Russ was an avid carpenter, skilled wood-worker, weekend mechanic, little league coach, and baseball umpire. In April 2009, the Spring Masonic Lodge #1174 accepted him as an Entered Apprentice. He completed his Fellow Craft and was later raised and accepted as a Master Mason only six months later. Year after year, Russ quietly, but actively demonstrated his devotion to the teachings of Masonry. Because of this, he was awarded the Golden Trowel, the highest honor a Masonic Lodge can bestow to any of its members.
At age 18, Russ started his true passion – riding motorcycles. He and Martha gained a deep sense of comradery and friendship with a core group of motorcycle buddies during their 43 years of riding and countless trips together. Aside from riding, he always had a desire to read music and play the saxophone. At age 64, with the aid of his amazing music teacher, Mark, he finally learned how.
Russ retired in January 2023 after 18yrs as the Corporate Vice President of Safety & Compliance at Texas Freight. Russell was one of the good ones – a wonderful dad, awesome husband, and inspiring friend – he will be missed by all.
Russell lost his battle against cancer. His family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of nurses at Heart to Heart
