Stephen John (S.J.) Halpin, went home to his Lord and Savior on May 29, 2014, after a brief illness. S.J. was born December 26, 1939, in Beaumont, Texas. He was quite an accomplished athlete. S.J. was a Beaumont area golden glove boxing champion and a three sport letterman in high school, earning him a football scholarship to Texas A & M (Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1962). S.J. married his high school sweetheart, Nina, who preceded him in death by 17 days. S.J. and Nina had four daughters during their 54 years of marriage. Nothing mattered more to S.J. than his family. He was a man of few words, who took pride in being the best provider and protector he could be and whose character is the foundation of his family's conscience. His "bleed maroon" Aggie sports enthusiasm will be missed by all those who loved him. S.J is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Edwards Halpin; parents, William Conway Halpin and Elizabeth Halpin. He is survived by his brother Bill Halpin and wife Annette; daughters, Lynn Snook and husband Gordon, Cheryl Pinson and husband Keith, Tricia Morton and husband George and Stephanie Halpin; brother in law, Bobby Edwards and wife Patti; grandchildren, Matthew Howell, Joshua Howell, Jared Pinson, Kyle Pinson, Abbie Pinson, Campbell Johnson, Stephen Johnson, and great grandchildren, Brendan Howell and Matthew Howell. There will be a memorial service celebrating the lives of S.J. and his wife Nina Halpin on Friday, June 13th at 2:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 2403 Rayford Road, Spring, TX 77386. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Texas Children's Hospital at www.texaschildrens.org.
