

Susanne (Withington) Carey went to meet her maker on the 20th of January 2025 at The Villages, FL. Susanne was born to W. Thayer and Esther C. (McCoy) Withington, Jr., on the 5th of January 1940 in Malden, MA. Susanne grew up on Wakefield, MA where she graduated from Wakefield High School in 1957.
Susanne was the bride of Dudley M. Carey from Kenova, WV, whom she wed in Melrose, MA on the 30th of July 1961. She and Dudley were married for nearly thirty-two years. Susanne had three primary careers in her life, that of a mother and wife, her favorite, banker, and airline gate agent.
She worked at First City Houston Bank from 1978 until 1993 where she started as a PDX operator and rose to the position of bank officer in bank operations responsible for First City and its branch banks from Houston to the Rio Grande Valley.
In 1993, Susanne commenced a new adventure where she started as flight reservationist and quickly became a gate agent for Continental Airlines at George H.W. Bush Intercontinental Airport. She served in that capacity until her retirement in 2005.
Susanne resided in Houston area for 42 years living first in Spring and later in Humble. The last six years of her life she spent residing in New Braunfels, TX, and Lake County Florida.
Susanne was preceded in death by her parents, “Thaya and Esta,” her husband Dudley, son Colten Tucker, and brother-in-law Peter R. Sawyer.
Susanne is survived by her sister, Sally Ann Sawyer of Laconia, NH, brother-in-law Michael D. Carey and his wife Katie of Sanford, NC; sons Timothy M. (Pamela S.), of Spring, TX, Justin D. (Denise G.), Sr., from Leesburg, FL, and Shayne M. (Hannah D.), of Huntington, WV. Susanne leaves behind five grandchildren Chelsea E. (Thomas Amentini) of Houston, TX, Kayhla M. of Wellington, CO, Chloe N. of Houston, TX, Justin D. Jr., of Fort Collins, CO, and Brooke Hayden of Huntington, WV. Susanne has one great- grandchild Zemmie R. Amentini. Susanne also leaves behind two nieces, a nephew, three great-nephews, and seven cousins.
Susanne will be interred next to Dudley at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd., Humble, TX 77338 on Monday, January 27th, 2025. Serving as pallbearers will be son Timothy, his long-time friends R. Dean Henricksen, Jr., son Justin and his lifelong pal David Goerke, and son Shayne along with his lifelong buddy Brent Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, or to the Alzheimer’s Association. May the Lord bless and protect her soul in the name of the savior Jesus Christ.
