David Malcolm Closterman was the loving husband of Doris Evans Closterman (1943-2024), whom he married on June 10, 1967, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was a beloved father to his children and their spouses: Wendy Closterman, married to Michael Pigg (Jenkintown, PA); David Closterman, Jr., married to Melissa Cornell Closterman (Buckingham, PA); and James Closterman, married to Maria (Clark) Closterman (Hatboro, PA). He was a devoted grandfather of David Closterman III of Atlanta, GA (son of Dave Jr. and Melissa), Ava (Closterman) Rhodes of Phoenixville, PA (daughter of Dave Jr. and Melissa and married to Nandin Rhodes), and Kayla Pigg of Jenkintown, PA (daughter of Wendy and Michael). He was also a caring brother to his twin sister, Elizabeth (Closterman) Roberts, wife of Thomas Roberts, of Kingston, PA. And he was dear to many other relatives and friends.
Dave was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1943, to Elizabeth A. (Buckingham) Closterman (born in Wilkes-Barre, PA) and Donald F. Closterman, MD (born in Jersey City, NJ). He graduated from Wyoming Seminary in Kingston in 1961, and from Wilkes College in 1965 with a BS in Commerce & Finance. He completed six years of service in the US Army Reserves in 1971, and he earned his MBA in Management from the University of Scranton in 1973.
Dave initially worked as an accountant at UGI (Luzerne Electric Div. in Kingston) and was then employed for over 29 years in various financial executive positions, the longest being VP & Controller at Reed Technology (formerly International Computaprint Corp) in Fort Washington and Horsham. He retired in 2007, after nearly nine years as a Controller at Elliston LLC in New Hope. During his retirement years he worked on a part-time basis as a seasonal tax preparer for H&R Block and with FEMA as an as-needed Disaster Assistance Employee (Funds Control Specialist). He also enjoyed volunteering as an AARP tax preparer for several years.
Dave loved being active outdoors. In his earlier years, he was a serious tennis player and enjoyed engaging in several other sports. He liked to take fishing expeditions with friends and family. For many years, he cultivated a large vegetable garden that provided his family with fresh produce every summer, and throughout his life he nurtured flowers indoors and outdoors. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Philadelphia sports teams and was especially a lifelong ardent Phillies fan. He fostered a love for the teams in his children.
Dave gave generously of his time and energy to helping those around him, whether in big ways or small. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Dori, when she needed it during the last years of her life. Though serious about his commitments, Dave also had a playful sense of humor. He will be remembered for his dedication, hard work, kindness, and sincere interest in others.
Dave passed away on December 19, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dori Closterman (Huntingdon Valley, PA), and his brother, Donald F. Closterman, Jr. (Kingston, PA).
