James A. D’Arcy died on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his residence. He was eighty-one years of age. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Irish Immigrants, the late Anthony and Mary Kate D’Arcy (nee Brennan), and was the eldest of their five children. He was a longtime resident of Huntingdon Valley.
Mr. D’Arcy was a retired electrical engineer. His career began at RCA Astro Electronics and through mergers, he ultimately retired from the Lockheed Martin Corporation in Newtown after 47 years of service. James was a graduate of Villanova University and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. James was active with a number of professional engineering organizations, including Eta Kappa Nu and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, receiving lifetime achievement and service awards from both.
James was politically active, serving as a Philadelphia Committeeman (1962-1974) and as a delegate at the 1968 and 1972 Democratic National Conventions.
James was the beloved husband of Beatrice Valencia D’Arcy for forty-four years. He was the beloved father of Monica D’Arcy (Michael Grauer) of Bethesda MD, John Steven D’Arcy of Huntsville AL, Susanna D’Arcy (Matthew Brooks) of Jenkintown and Catalina Quinn (David) of Coopersberg. He was the loving grandfather of Liam D’Arcy-Brooks and William D’Arcy. He was also the loving brother of Eileen Garvey (Peter) of Ottawa, ON, the late John Franklin, the late Andrew, the late Robert, and loving uncle of Janet Garvey and Joanna Thain (Duncan).
Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, February 25, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Saint Albert The Great Church, 212 Welsh Rd, Huntingdon Valley, PA 1900. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM.
