Joe was born on March 11, 1931 in Philadelphia, to parents, Charles Hughes and Mary (Mae) Hughes. Joe grew up in West Philadelphia and in the Fairmount section of the city. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1949. Joe went on to establish a career as a Sales Account Manager, working for several companies over his 45 year career - Robert Shaw, Carey-McFall and Fred Hill & Sons.
Joe loved to bowl, play cards, watch a Phillies game, do crossword puzzles and listen to music. Joe also spent time making customized birthday and anniversary cards and later customized music CDs for friends and family.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ann, brother, Charlie, sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Richard.
Joe is survived by his children: Judy Hughes, Patti and Mike Martel, Joe Hughes; his siblings, Bill and Phyllis Hughes, Loretta and Steve Saile, his 5 grandchildren: Aleks, Lukas, Eli, Hannah and Grace and many loved nieces and nephews.
A viewing and funeral service for Joseph will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Lamb Funeral Home Inc., 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. A burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006.
