Mathew Varughese, better known as Kunjumon, was born into the Kappamammoottil family on January 29, 1946, in Ranni, Kerala, India. Kunjumon was the son of K.A. and Mariamma Varughese. He was one of five siblings, though he carried the memory of his two older siblings who both passed away. He immigrated to the United States in 1973, living in Colorado and New York before eventually making his home in Philadelphia.
Kunjumon was a devoted man of God whose faith profoundly shaped his life. His kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith inspired all who knew him. A man of action, he volunteered his time and resources to help those in need, finding joy in prayer and singing gospel songs, even in his last days. As a dedicated member of Grace Pentecostal Church for many years, he formed deep connections within the community and made a significant impact on those around him.
Kunjumon had an infectious laugh that could light up any room. He loved to tell stories, often filled with humor, and had a remarkable ability to make others laugh. He had a special love for children, delighting in making them laugh and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. He believed in their potential and always sought to inspire them to be successful in all they did, leaving a lasting impression on their hearts.
Throughout his life he worked hard, spending 25 years at Cardone Industries, where his hard work and commitment were evident in everything he did.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, cherishing the bonds he shared with his family. His greatest treasure was his wife, Annamma. Their 50-year union was filled with love and respect, as they supported each other and shared joyful moments. Annamma was his confidante and anchor, bringing warmth and joy to his life.
He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, who filled his life with love and laughter. He valued their character, resilience, and kindness toward others. Kunjumon’s ability to listen and offer guidance made him a beloved figure in their lives, and his love served as a constant source of encouragement.
He is survived by his wife, Annamma; his children, Steeve (Niju) and Sherry (Prince); his siblings, Rachel (Georgekutty) and Thomas (Susie); and his five beautiful granddaughters, Hannah, Emma, Kezia, Faith, and Abigail.
