Nécrologie de Doris E. Brady
Doris Evelyn (Lewis) Brady, 95 passed away at 5:04 am on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Doris was a 1942 graduate of Esbon High School, upon graduation she started teaching in a one room county school after she passed a state required test. This was during WWII and there were not enough teachers to supply the demand. She taught two years in the one room school house and then moved to a small town elementary school where she taught for four more years. It was here she met her husband, Charles who was just starting to teach after returning to the states after serving in WWII. Doris graduated from Huntington College Mag-Cum-Laude with a BS degree in physical education and biology. She received her MA degree in physical education and health from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. She took additional studies at Highland Jr. College in Highland, Kansas, Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, Fort Hays State University in Fort Hays, Kansas and IUPU in Fort Wayne. She was a lifetime member of the American Association of Health and Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She was a member of the National Education Association and the Huntington County Teachers Retirement Association. Her teaching career consisted of six years in Kansas, five years as Director of Women’s Physical Education at Manchester College and nineteen years in Huntington County Community Schools. Doris was a member of College Park United Brethren Church where she helped to organize the Youth Commission of the church and the Bible School. She worked with the youth such as Children of Faith and Bible Quizzing for twenty-five years before retiring. She was a member of the Huntington College Auxiliary, a past member of the Huntington College Alumni Board and the Huntington College Historical Society. Among her talents was construction, she was a builder at heart. During the depression you made do with what you had, and if it broke you fixed it any way you could. Since retiring she has helped with church camps, traveling and enjoying fellowship with her grandchildren. Doris was born on September 1, 1924 in Esbon, Kansas the daughter of Guy H. and Grace M.
