

Hobart E. Schacht Jr. 70, of Gas City passed away at 10:59 pm on Saturday September 5, 2015 at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Hobart was a 1963 graduate of Huntington High School. He graduated from Huntington College with a degree in education, and later went on to receive his masters from Ball State University. In High School Hobart swam for the Huntington YMCA National team that was coached by Coach Hummer. Hobart taught at Eastbrook High School in Grant County where he also served as the head of the science department. He also worked part time at the Walnut Creek Golf course in Grant County. Hobart enjoyed bicycling, woodworking, playing golf, and was an avid reader.
Hobart was born April 16, 1945 a son to Hobart Schacht Sr. and Dorothy (Clark) Schacht. His parents preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Tammara Truitt on August 6, 1966 at the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in Roanoke. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons: Hobart “Bart” (Kimberley) Schacht III of Ft. Wayne, and Nathanael “Nate” Schacht of Huntington; Two grandchildren: Samantha Schacht of Ft. Wayne, and Hobart “Hobie” Schacht IV of Ft. Wayne; and two sisters: Sandra “Sandy” Schacht of Huntington, and Natalie Beal of Andrews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 9, 2015 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, located at 2901 Guilford St. Huntington, IN 46750
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in Roanoke with Pastor Marvin Grooms officiating.
Interment will take place at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery
Memorial Donations can be made out to Visiting Nurse and Hospice or to the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in care of Myers Funeral Home.
