Hugh W. Smith

Hugh W. Smith, 89 of Huntington passed away at 12:15 am on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Miller’s Merry Manor. He worked as a welder. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII from 1942 – 1945. He was a member of Huntington’s VFW Post 2689 for 50 years (since 1963), and served as Post Commander from 2005 to 2006.

Hugh was born on November 2, 1923 in Pike County, Arkansas, the son of Morgan and Emma (Fox) Smith.

He was united in marriage to Dorma Faye Nichols on March 5, 1948 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters: Jo Ellen Ehler of Huntington; Mary Elizabeth (Dennis) Booth of Niles, MI; Deborah Ann (Stuart) Frummer of Bethel, NY and three grandchildren: Anthony Paul Ehler, Katie Jo Ehler and Megan Jones Frummer.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
