Jane A. Schenkel, 80 of Huntington passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a 1961 graduate of Lancaster Township High School and received her education degree in 1975 from Huntington College. She later received her master’s degree from IPFW. Jane had taught elementary education, mainly second grade. Most of her time was at Lancaster Elementary, retiring after 17 years. She was a lifetime member of the Salamonie Church of the Brethren and most recently attended Emmanuel Community Church. Jane was on the board of The Forks of the Wabash and was a long time HU Trustee Board member and Huntington County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter AZ. Jane was an awesome grandma, supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities. She loved working in her flower garden and landscaping. Jane was a warrior, battling multiple Myeloma since 2015.
Jane was born on May 22, 1943 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Paul A. and Frances (Rench) Weaver, Sr.
She was united in marriage to Thomas T. Schenkel on October 28, 1961 in Lancaster, Indiana. Thomas preceded her in death on March 5, 2018.
Survivors include two daughters: Jody (Garrett) Davenport of Andrews, Sarah (Ted) Trout of Huntington; a son: Mark (Cindy) Schenkel of Hudsonville, MI; a sister: Martha Stephen of Huntington; two brothers: Jim (Carolyn) Weaver of Lena, IL, Joe (Carolyn) Weaver of Fairfield, IA; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Rebekah Trout Chapel; two brothers: John Weaver, Paul Weaver, Jr.; two sisters: Joyce Truitt and Carolyn Flaugher.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 following visitation at 4:00 pm.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County.
