Marvin R. Tudor, 86, of Huntington passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Marvin graduated from Eminence High School in 1956 where he was Morgan County's leading scorer in basketball in 1955 and 1956. He went to Butler University on an athletic scholarship and received a Bachelor's degree in education in 1960. He received his Master's degree from Indiana University in 1964. He began his teaching and coaching at Mooresville in 1960 as Freshman and B-team coach. In 1961 he moved his family to Triton Central in Fairland, IN as varsity coach for four years of the baseball and basketball team, with an undefeated team in 1965. Marvin then moved to Plymouth for two years, winning his first sectional in 1967. The next move was to Huntington where he coached basketball for eleven years, winning ten straight sectionals and one regional. He was the winningest coach in Huntington North High School history. Marvin also taught U.S History and Driver's Education during his tenure at Huntington North.
He then served as Athletic Director/Assistant Principal at Huntington North and finished his 42 year career as Principal at Riverview Middle School in Huntington, IN. One of Marvin's proudest moments was being inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. He was later Director and President of the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame in 2012 and 2013; and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until the date of his death. Earlier in 1979 he was Vice-president of the Indiana Coaches Association. In 1970 he was one of ten Indiana Basketball Coaches that started the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association where he later held the positions of Director and President. While Athletic Director, Marvin was also on the Indiana Athletic Directors Board of Directors.
He was a member of Central Christian Church since 1967 and served as a Deacon, Elder, and on the Foundation Board from 1982 to 2014. He also served on the Disciples of Christ Foundation since 2014, and later attended Evangelical United Methodist Church in Huntington. He was on the Salvation Army Board beginning in 1980, and Chairman of the annual Christmas canned food drive for Huntington Schools for over 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed winters with his wife in Bradenton, Florida and playing golf. He always felt he was blessed to have such a wonderful family, enjoyed coaching so many nice kids, and meeting so many famous coaches and people through basketball.
Marvin was born on November 18, 1938 in Greencastle, IN a son of the late Loren and Marjorie (Rhea) Tudor.
He was united in marriage to Jeanette Elaine Miller on June 8, 1958. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters: Kathy (Kevin) McIlrath of Huntington, and Cynthia "Cindy" (Steve) Gray of Huntington; four grandchildren: Bretton (Rhonda Sarmento) McIlrath of Atlanta Georgia, Lauren (Stephen) McIlrath-Wiggins of Fort Wayne, Jonathon (Deidre) Gray of Markle, and Stephanie Gray of Garland, TX; and one great grandchild: Esther Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington IN 46750.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 12:00 pm with one hour of visitation from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will take place on March 10, 2025 at the Mannan Cemetery in Cloverdale, IN.
