Mary L. Towne, 95 of Upland and formerly of Huntington, passed away Friday afternoon December 19, 2025, at the University Nursing Center in Upland, Indiana. Mary was a 1948 graduate of Allentown High School in Pennsylvania and a 1953 graduate of Huntington College with a bachelor's degree in education. She later earned her master's degree from St. Francis University. She was a former member of the College Park United Brethren Church and a current member of The Church at McNatt. Mary was past president of the Evening Missionary Society; Mary and her husband spent two-three year terms in Sierra Leone West Africa serving as missionaries with the United Brethren in Christ Church; she was a Sunday School teacher of the Galilean Class and was in the Who's Who of College Students.
Mary was born on July 7, 1930, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Robert P. and Lenore Clara Marie (Frey) Chapman Sr.
She was united in marriage to Evan T. Towne on July 1, 1951, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Evan preceded her in death on August 26, 2019.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Dick) Schweikhardt of Van Buren, Komeh (Joe) Zilka of Van Buren; a sister: Charlotte "Chari" White; a sister-in-law: Lana Chapman; two grandchildren: Miranda Zoch, Frank Schweikhardt; four great grandchildren: Isaac Zoch, Peter Zoch, Vera Schweikhardt and Adele Schweikhardt
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother: Robert Chapman, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Monday December 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, located at 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington IN 46750.
Funeral service will be held on Monday December 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., immediately following the visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at the Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren, Indiana.
