Melba I. Jackson

Melba I. Jackson, 95 of Huntington passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Melba was a 1943 graduate of West Union High School. She was manager at the Montgomery Ward Catalog office in Huntington, office manager at Brennan Plumbing in Huntington, and worked in food service for the Huntington County School Corporation for 17 years, retiring in 1987. Melba was a member of College Park United Brethren Church and was a former member of Zion United Brethren Church for 60 years. She enjoyed horse shows, gardening, traveling and following her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. Melba was born on June 6, 1925 in Huntington, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Daisy Mae (Howey) Thorn. She was united in marriage to Gerald G. Jackson on October 22, 1942 in Wabash. Gerald preceded her in death on February 24, 1989. Survivors include a daughter: Peggy Platt of Huntington; two grandchildren: Ty (Brenda) Platt of Huntington; Polly (Dan) Grismore of Fort Wayne; four great grandchildren: Kyle (Carley) Platt, Konner Platt, Kalee Platt and Abbigail (Devin) Throop. She was preceded in death by a brother: Clayton Thorn; three sisters: Retta Smith, Doris Opal Murray, Ruth Crago and a son-in-law: Steven D. Platt. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will follow visitation at 3:00 pm. We will be following the CDC’s and Indiana’s guidelines for Mask’s, Social Distancing and Social Gathering Limits. Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made out to College Park United Brethren Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
