Robert E. Rice

Robert was a 1944 graduate of Union Township High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 – 1946. He was a 50 year member of the Amity Lodge, and was a member of the Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 85, and was a life member of the VFW Post 2689. He was a member of the Warren area Antique Tractor Club and was known as “Bob the Bean Man”. He was a member of the Solid Rock United Methodist Church in Warren. Robert retired from Fisher Body in Marion where he was a member of the Fisher Body Sympathy Club.

Robert was born on July 4, 1926 in Huntington, a son of Clarence and Hazel (Williams) Rice.

He was united in marriage to Mary Athalene Shrock on April 19, 1944 in Peru, Indiana; she preceded him in death on December 19, 2007.

Survivors include a son: Christopher (Ellen) Rice of Huntington; three daughters: Roberta Williams of Huntington; Carol (Mike) Bowers of Huntington; Susan (John) Mills of Majenica; a brother: William (Jan) Rice of Markle; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son: Mark L. Rice and four brothers: Clarence “Bud” Rice, Joe Rice, Darwin Rice and Jackie Rice, a sister: Evelyn Wegmann, two grandchildren: David Friedman, Alex Rice and two great grandchildren: Jason Beck and Brian Friedman.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on July 26, 2014 from 9:00am – 11:00am at the Solid Rock United Methodist Church, 485 Bennett Drive, Warren, Indiana.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on July 26, 2014 at the Solid Rock United Methodist Church.
