Todd Michael Hammel

Todd Michael Hammel, 38 of LaFontaine passed away at 1:10 pm on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at his residence. Todd was a 1996 graduate of Huntington North High School. He had attended Huntington University. He received his paramedic’s certification from the University of St. Francis; he received his master’s degree from Indiana Tech in organizational leadership. He was an officer at the Fort Wayne Police Department since August 2002, most recently serving as a sergeant, where he also received a Meritorious Service Award in 2005. He was a paramedic at Parkview Huntington Hospital for several years. He previously taught at Indiana Tech in the Criminal Justice Department. Todd was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 130 of Huntington and was a volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Todd was born on August 7, 1977 in Huntington, the son of Brent D. and Kathleen S. (Christ) Hammel.

He was united in marriage to Tracy Marley on September 29, 2001 in Fort Wayne. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son: Breckin R. Hammel: a stepson: Hale A. Bowen both at home; a sister: Kelly (Jason) Diemer of New Haven; his father: Brent D. Hammel of Roanoke; his mother: Kathleen S. Hammel of Fort Wayne; Mother and Father-In-Laws: Gary and Cheryl Marley of LaFontaine; Grandparents: Robert and Nina Rouch of LaFontaine; Alice Marley of Warren; Marian Hammel of Huntington; a sister and brother-in-law: Kristian and Jaime Shorter of McCordsville, IN; a niece: Kendall Shorter; two nephews: Brogan and Blake Diemer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Chaplain Richard Hartman officiating.

Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
