

William H. "Bill" Land, 86 of Huntington passed away at 8:20 pm on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Markle Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Bill was a 1946 graduate of Huntington High School and a 1950 graduate of Purdue University. He had worked in Merrillville, IN as a Civil Engineer and was the County surveyor from 1971 to 1989 in Huntington County. He was a member of the National Service of Civil Engineers. Bill served state side in Seattle Washington during the Korean War.
Bill was born on February 6, 1928 in Huntington County, a son of Oliver P. and Martha A. (Mason) Land.
He was united in marriage to Wilma K. Roesler on January 1, 1953 in Gary, Indiana. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son: John A. Land of Logansport; a daughter: Sue D. Miller of Lafayette; a nephew: Carl Strle of Huntington; a sister: Opal Nelson of Cottage Grove, OR; three grandsons:, Zachary M. Miller, Nathan A. Miller and William 0. Land.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul Land, Bernard Land and three sisters: Cecil Custer, Elizabeth Hendrix and Rebecca Custer.
Bill was an avid follower of the local auctions often bringing home gems to share with family.
A celebration of Life will held on Jan 24th at Huntington University, Habecker Dining, Room C from 1-3 pm.
