Alexandra Christine Cirrito , 57, of Centerville, died March 25 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich after a brief struggle with cancer. Alex did not have an easy life but she bore her considerable physical disabilities well, most often with wit and grace.
She grew up in Grafton, MA with her family and graduated from Keefe Technical High School. She spent her 20’s and 30’s in various group homes in the Worcester area and moved to Cape Cod to be close to her family in the early 90’s. She lived in several group homes on Cape Cod ably staffed by the May Institute.
These past few years were her happiest and healthiest living at the May’s Guildford residence in Centerville with three other women. Her family is very grateful for the many caring staff at the May, both at her home and day program. A special thank you goes to Shameca Lopez and Jane Convoy.
Alex enjoyed music, theater, travel, lobster rolls and spending time with her family. Her happiest memories were of the many summers from childhood into her 20’s spent on Martha’s Vineyard at Camp Jabberwocky. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tony & Fran Cirrito. She is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Bea and Jeffrey Goldstein of Barnstable, Monica and Jeffry Steele of Tacoma, Washington and Angela Cirrito of Worcester as well as her niece and nephews, Julia and Tony Goldstein, Nat and Noah Sheppard.
