Al was born and raised in Arlington, MA. After graduating high school, he played AAA baseball and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War as a Radio Controller. During his service he was wounded trying to save another member of his platoon and was awarded the Purple Heart for bravery.
People who knew Al, knew he had many careers. His most rewarding one was owning his own financial service company until he retired in 2009. Al enjoyed traveling, cooking, and sports. However, nothing could stop his love of golf. He enjoyed playing the game, watching the game, and became an official of the game for local tournaments.
Al loved life and all it offered. He used to say he has lived what many others only wished they had. Through all of life's challenges, Al kept his sense of humor.
Al is survived by his loving wife Carol Nero-Nevola; sister Janice Nevola; sister Angela Gazza and husband Bob; brother-in-law Peter Nero and wife Dianne; sister-in-law Mary Nero-Kenney and husband Jim; brother-in-law Thom Nero and wife Susan; along with many nephews, nieces, and friends.
After Al's very long journey he will be at peace in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alfred Nevola's memory and name to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250
