Alvin D. Alander

Alvin D. Alander, 93, of Hyannis, died peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2022. Alvin was the son of the late John and Edna (Davis) Alander. He was born and raised in Kingston, MA where he met the love of his life, Rita (Glass) Alander with whom he shared 66 wonderful years.

Alvin worked for many years in the airline industry, first with Northeast Airlines and then with Delta Airlines, which led to a life-long interest in aviation. He was the station manager in Hyannis for Northeast Airlines and was a station agent for Delta Airlines in Boston. Enjoying the perks of the job, Al and Rita one day flew to Bermuda just to have lunch. Al retired in 1991 to enjoy the scenic beaches of Cape Cod and revel in the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Al’s pastimes were watching the Red Sox and traveling. He and Rita once traversed the United States on a cross country road trip with their favorite state being Montana. Al’s talents included woodworking which he used to craft treasured bookshelves and furniture for his family. He was renowned for his quick wit and good humor.

Alvin is predeceased by his wife Rita and his daughters Jill Alander and Amy Weth. He is survived by his son Jon Alander and wife Cindy and his daughter Kristin Shepherd and husband Doug. Alvin is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Jaime, Benjamin, Matthew, Timothy, Nicholas, Megan, Sara, Molly and Zachary and his 4 great grandchildren Jillian and Charlotte LaFrance and Sophie and Charlotte Weth. He also leaves behind close family members Paul and Leslie Chizek and Thomas Weth.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 on Monday, June 13 at 1:00pm. Burial will be private.
