

Barbara (née Fitch) Scott Beckett died peacefully on January 29, 2015 at The Pavilion in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She was married to the late Bradford Scott for 23 years and to the late George Beckett for 32 years.
Mrs. Beckett graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, and Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling was from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Mrs. Beckett was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Educational Sorority, the Junior League of Waterbury in New Haven, Connecticut, and PEO, a philanthropic organization dedicated to the advancement of women. She taught physical education in Connecticut and Ohio, and was a guidance counselor in Ohio, retiring in 1982. At that time she and her husband, George Beckett moved aboard their sailboat, and, after two years navigating the waters of the east coast and the Caribbean, came ashore in Florida where Mrs. Beckett was a community volunteer and a church Elder in Punta Gorda and North Ft. Myers, Florida. In 2002 Mrs. Beckett and her husband moved to Dennis, Massachusetts, continuing to spend winters in Florida. Her outside interests were sailing, bridge, golf, her family, and friends, and she was a member of the Dennis Union Church.
Mrs. Beckett is survived by three sons: William B. Scott (Ellen) of Sandwich, Massachusetts; Robert D. Scott of Centerville, Massachusetts; Gary H. Scott of Centerville, Massachusetts; a step-daughter Jennifer Beckett (William Fuller) of San Francisco, California; three grandchildren, a niece, and a nephew. A memorial service and interment will be later in the year.
