Bernyce was born in Fort Pierce, FL. The youngest daughter of Lewis & Mandy Mack. Buster and Bernyce were married on May 23,1961. They were snowbirds for a while and in 1965, Buc & Bern (as they were affectionately nicknamed) decided to make Cape Cod their permanent home. They were accompanied by their children: Eric (Carol) aka ‘Old Man’, Anthony aka ‘Skeeter’, Dorothy aka ‘Lil Mama’ and Amanda aka ‘Disco’. Once settled, then came along the “Cape Codder’s”, Buster, Jr. (Diane) aka ‘Weebles’ and lastly, Christopher aka ‘DooDums’
The family continued to grow. Soon they became Nana and Papa to 11 grandchildren: Tori, Christopher, Dominique and his wife Shalyn, Darnell, Quentin, Emmanuel, Amber, Jailynn, Elijah, Kaylena and Mateya. They are also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Kahnowa, Mahalia, Beau, Remi, Cru and our newest member Emanii. And let’s not forget all of the family four-legged pets that are too many to name.
Bernyce worked for CapeAbilities (formerly Nauset Workshop) for over 35 years. She was loved and respected by her clients with intellectual disabilities and their families. After taking to retirement like a duck to water, she became a member of the Hyannis Senior Center, where she polished her computer skills and enjoyed functions, outings and groups with her newly found senior friends.
Bernyce was a long-time disciple of Zion Union Church. She was friend and confidant to many. This time of year, you would be most likely to catch her working and/or relaxing in her beautiful yard thus earning yet another nick name ‘Farmer Nana’.
Over the past week, we have heard people say wonderful things about our mother. She was loved by her family and friends. Bernyce was an angel walking on earth with us. We were lucky to have her in our lives for as long as we did. With unwavering faith, our angel Bernyce has been called home.
Visitation will be held at the Zion Union Church, 805 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 9:30-11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Neck Cemetery.
