Edith E Andrews

She was the daughter of Geneva R. and Ernest A. Cash and was born in West Dennis in November, 1924. After graduating from Yarmouth High School, class of 1942, Edie moved to Brockton and was employed by the Home National Bank for 11 years as the “first female head teller” before her marriage in 1954.

Her husband was a widower with three small children and she will always be remembered for her loving care to the children, especially when the two boys contracted polio and were hospitalized for several years. She and her husband took turns every night to visit the boys. Later, they had three children of their own, and Edith remained at home raising six children.

Home and family were her main interests, but she also enjoyed playing cards, knitting, puzzles, garden work, and digging quahogs in front of their home. She was also a stamp and coin collector and was very clever at fixing anything, earning the nickname, “The Jill of all trades”.

Edie enjoyed living back on the cape in the house that she and her husband designed and built in 1988, which was the gathering place for her family to enjoy holidays with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and their friends and families.

One of the greatest pleasures was attending her grandchildren’s school activities, be it on Cape or in California. She also loved to see her children’s friends and their families, and was known to them as “Ma Andrews”, receiving greeting cards throughout the years from them. Everyone who knew her will always remember her warn smile and genuine personality.

She is survived by her children Jared Paul Sr. from Redlands, CA, Pamela Jean (Andrews) and her husband Steven Barnes of Harwich, MA; Jane Elizabeth (Andrews) and her husband Curt Benttinen of Centerville, MA, and Christian Alden and his wife Jennifer of Pacific Palisades, CA. Edie was predeceased by children Dean Scott and Bette Jean Andrews.

Edie was the proud grandmother of Betsy Orosco of Sacramento, CA; Paul Andrews of Honolulu, HI; Rick Andrews of Redlands, CA; Jeanne Andrews of Sand Bernadino, CA; Jordan Barnes of Harwich, MA; Taylor Barnes of Harwich, MA; Rachel Benttinen of Centerville, MA; and Will, Owen and Mae Andrews of Pacific Palisades, CA.

She was also the proud great-grandmother to Aundrea, Danielle, Sara and Anthony Orosco of Sacramento, CA; Kai Andrews of Honolulu, HI; and, Aaron Alden Andrews of Redlands, CA, and, the great, great grandmother to Cameron and Caleb Meux of McClellan Park, CA.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home at 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA on Friday, February 28, 2020, 4-6:30 pm, with a Remembrance Service beginning at 6:30pm. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at a later date. Donations can be made in Edie’s name to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.
