

Edward Spencer Hartin, 86 of Centerville, passed away peacefully in Boston on February 19, 2015. Born and raised in Malden, MA, he graduated from Malden High School in 1947 followed by graduation from Tilton Prep School in 1949 and continued his education at the University of New Hampshire where he played Center for UNH’s 1950 “Undefeated Football Team” and graduated from Northeastern University. Ed was a proud member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Army Security Agency from 1951-1954.
After the war, Ed worked for 37 years as a Sales Representative for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he met and married his wife Sally. They moved to Springfield. MA and lived in Wilbraham, MA for over 25 years, where they raised their five children and eventually retired to Cape Cod. He enjoyed being involved in youth baseball and hockey as well as boating, swimming, tennis and playing cards with friends.
Ed, a devoted husband, father and grandfather leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Sally Dixon Hartin, daughters Cindy and her husband Jim Brunton of Springfield, MA, Debbie and her husband Jimmy Kelly of Walpole, MA, Kathy and her husband Jim Hyatt of Walpole, MA, sons John and his wife Andrea Hartin of Hampden, MA and Dave and his wife Julie Hartin of Brentwood, NH. He will be truly missed by his cherished grandchildren who brought so much joy into his life: Eddie, Tommy, Billy, Monica and Clare Brunton, Katharyn and Sarah Kelly, Andy, Mike, Becky, Mary and Joey Hyatt, Hailee, Johnny, Charlie and Sydnee Hartin, Griffin and Alexandria Hartin. He also leaves his sisters Anne Sheehan of Stonehill, MA, Therese Nolan of Saugus, MA, brother in law Skip Dixon of Hyannis, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Hartin.
His family is grateful to the wonderful staffs at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston, MA for their compassionate care of Ed in the last months.
Visitation hours will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 from 4-7 PM at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St, Hyannis, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St, Centerville, MA followed by a committal service at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation or a charity of your choice.
