Born on November 18, 1930, in Brookline, MA, he was the son of the late Oscar and Hazel (Campbell) Lenk.
Mr. Lenk graduated from Brookline High School in 1948. In 1952, he graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He spent most of his career at the Bank of New England (formerly New England Merchants) in Boston, specializing in credit analysis and loan review, and he retired in the late 1980s. In retirement, he applied his financial skills acquired during his banking career to his “2nd career” as an avid and skilled personal investor.
Mr. Lenk had a lasting connection to Cape Cod, having summered here as a boy, and as a young man he worked on commercial fishing boats based on the Cape. These childhood experiences lead to a lifelong love of fishing the area waters. Golf was another of his passions and he was one of the longest tenured members (since 1959) of the Cummaquid Golf Club, where in recent years he was a fixture at the club’s practice green, and where he had many happy rounds of golf over the years with members and with his son. Though having never received any formal training, he was also renowned within his family for his cooking skills. More than anything, he cherished the time that he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Edward C. Lenk, Jr. (Toby) and his wife, Lynn of Orinda, CA; his daughter, Melinda Whitman of Marstons, Mills; his grandchildren, Courtney, Anna, Georden, Chase, Tyler; and his sister, Viola Leonard and her husband, Wardwell of Ledyard, CT.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made in his Edward’s name to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601.
