Gene was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and grew up in Glens Falls, New York. He attended college in Buffalo, New York, and was graduated from St. John’s Law School in New York City. Gene worked as a trial attorney for over thirty years, first as a prosecutor and then in private practice. He ended his career practicing corporate bankruptcy law at a firm on Long Island, New York and retired and relocated to Cape Cod in 2005.
Gene was passionate about everything he undertook. While his strongest passion was for his family, he always enjoyed skiing, sailing, and most other outdoor activities. His family has many wonderful memories of him engaging in those sports. He also had a keen eye for art, a deep appreciation of music, and a talent for making fine furniture. He is survived by his wife, Joan McLachlan, with whom he was together for 20 years. He leaves his daughter Kate Cimini and her husband Nicholas Cramb, and Gene's most recent joy, their son Dylan Cimini Cramb, of Boston; his daughter, Laura Cimini, of New York City; his stepdaughter Meghan Douglas-Hellyer and her husband Travis of San Francisco; his stepson W. Matthew Douglas of New York City; and his brothers David and Michael Cimini both of Pittsfield, MA and their families. In addition, he leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. His parents Eugene Sr. and Helen Conte Cimini and his younger sister Frances Cimini predeceased him.
A celebration of his life will be held at the South Congregational Church, Main St. Centerville on Saturday February 26, 2011 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org).
