
Everett B. Horn, Jr., 84, died at home June 7, 2012. Born in Waban, he was educated at the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH and completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard College in 1949. He married his wife Patricia in the same year and went on to receive his JD from the Boston College Law School in 1954.
He practiced insurance law for over 40 years and was active throughout his professional life in various legal associations, including the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Barnstable County Bar Association, and the Association of Life Insurance Counsel. Everett was a Director of the Massachusetts Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, as well as the Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont Associations. He also worked as a Director of the Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York. He retired as the Vice President and General Counsel of the Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company.
On the Cape, he was active with the Harvard Club of Cape Cod, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Osterville Men’sClub and the Hyannis Yacht Club. He also gave freely of his time to St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
A lifelong summer resident of West Hyannisport, he and his family lived in Needham before moving permanently to Hyannis in 1976. He fully retired in 1993.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, in 2006, as well as his brother, Frederick Horn. He is survived by his sons, Everett B. Horn III and wife Pamela of Sandwich, John M.and wife Celeste Vezina of Needham, and Daniel J. and wife Elizabeth of Marstons Mills. He is also survived by his daughter Cynthia H. and husband Nathan Whetten of Tolland CT. Everett also leaves 11 grandchildren, Everett IV, William, Peter, Katherine, Joseph, Michael, Thomas and Mary Horn, as well as Patricia, Meghan and Sean Whetten.
Visiting hours will be from 4-7pm on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St. Hyannis, MA 02601. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 12, at 9am at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South St. Hyannis, MA 02601. Interment will be in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.
