

Flora M. Vercollone, 97, died peacefully on March 17 at McCarthy Hospice Center in Sandwich, holding the hand of her husband of 70 years, Roy, and surrounded by family. Born and raised in Australia, Flora met Roy during World War II in the South Pacific, where she was with The Red Cross and Roy was a US Naval officer. They raised a loving family of five children in Winchester, then later lived in Acton and Dartmouth. Flora also had an accomplished career as a seamstress, teacher and author, including television appearances and patented inventions. She is survived by her husband, of Dartmouth, her five children and their spouses: Teresa Cryan and her husband Peter of Dartmouth, David and his wife Karen of Centerville, Susan Lloyd and her husband James of Centerville, Robert and his wife Becky of Watertown, and Lisa Arthofer and her husband Al of Seattle, WA. She was the cherished grandmother of Jessica, Stephen, Vanessa, Aaron, Phillip, Allison, Andrew, Nicholas and Katherine, and great-grandmother to 11 wonderful children. Flora is survived by her sister Alice of England and her brother Malcolm of Australia. She was predeceased by her sisters Christine, Deborah, Madeleine, Agnes, Jean and her brothers John and David. She was the loving aunt of many, both here in the US and in Australia and England. Visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 4-7pm, at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 24, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 230 S. Main Street, Centerville. Burial will be private.
