Francis William Downes

Francis William Downes of Hyannis, MA passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on June 7, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Eva Downes of Newton, MA. Frank attended Newton schools and Springfield College.

He enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. Frank was an athlete and an avid Boston Sports fan. He was a youth sports coach for numerous teams for his son and daughters, co-founder of the Barnstable Lacrosse Club, and had a career in sales throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Elaine Chooljian of Haverhill, MA.

Frank is survived by his four children: Cynthia Dooley and her husband Fred of Marstons Mills, MA; Cathy Couett and husband Garry of Newfields, NH; Timothy Downes and partner Lori McDonald of Norwich, VT; and Nancy O’Brien and husband Timothy of Newton, MA, as well as his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Tucker Dooley and wife Rachel, and their sons Theodore and Jasper of Tampa, FL; Tarin McDevitt and husband Christopher of Centerville, MA; Taylor Dooley and fiancé Eric Rowe of Madeira Beach, FL; Tess Dooley and partner Sam Jaxtimer of Osterville, MA; Tyler Couett of Denver, CO; Margorie Zorn and husband Garrett of Kittery, ME (and soon-to-be “Baby Zorn”); Trevor Couett of Newfields, NH; Erin O’Brien of New York, NY; and Molly O’Brien of Boston, MA.

Frank will be remembered for his quick wit and amusing sarcasm, and his family will carry on his legacy by sharing laughs together and tuning in to Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
